Bright Light, Desert City

In Bright Light, Desert City I draw the stories, told by the people I met, when I visited the Tucson and Bay Area region in 2022, just before the midterm elections. The stories cover issues like homelessness, gun culture, LGBT rights and politics. In adittion, I include my own observations and experiences.

This country has always had a sizeable influence on my drawings. My uncle emigrated to the States in the 1950s, along with many other Dutch people. They went looking for a better future after World War II. When I was little, the U.S.A. was presented as a promised land, a country where hard work ensured a prosperous life. Through the years, my view on America changed, but I remain interested in its culture.

The first chapter will be updated twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday.
